Discover Ansbach

No, the capital of Middle Franconia is not Fürth or Nuremberg, but the royal seat of Ansbach. In the middle of the West Middle Franconia holiday region, you will find everything you need to make your new home in this university town.

In terms of area, the district of Ansbach alone is almost as large as the Saarland. It is therefore logical that the diversity in romantic Franconia is a real plus point. Whether it's swimming, hiking, biking or climbing - the Franconian Lake District has it all. But don't get the wrong idea: Ansbach is by no means a village. After all, what other village has its own ensemble theatre in the middle of the city? The compact campus of short distances is also super central. Would you like to end the day in a cosy atmosphere after your lecture?  No problem. Just cross the ‘bridge’ and you have a choice of numerous pubs and bars. You are sure to meet other fellow students there.

Want to be even more urban? No problem, because you can be in the centre of Nuremberg in 30 minutes on the S-Bahn. But you can leave the high rents there. They are nowhere near as expensive in Ansbach as in the big cities of the Free State. There are also plenty of shopping facilities and everything else you need for your daily needs in Ansbach.

Living

Housing is comparatively inexpensive in Ansbach. The quickest way to find a flat is via the usual internet portals, the daily newspaper and all other local papers as well as via notices in the canteen. You should also take a look at our website. There are also several halls of residence especially for students near the campus.

About half of the total electricity in West Middle Franconia comes from renewable energy sources. The water quality is good, so you can drink the water from the tap without a guilty conscience.

You don't have to worry about internet at Stone Age speeds either. With a transmission speed of 50-100 Mbit/s, this is at a good level.

Public transport links

You can easily reach Ansbach both by car and by public transport.

The Ansbach rail network is part of the Greater Nuremberg Transport Association (VGN). An S-Bahn line connects Ansbach directly with Nuremberg. There are also direct trains to Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart and Würzburg. Ansbach currently has seven bus routes, which can also be used to reach neighbouring towns.

Ansbach is particularly well connected via the A6 and A7 motorways as well as the B13 and B14. The city is also home to modern transport concepts such as carpooling and car sharing as well as several electric charging stations. There are many options for short-term parking, but permanent parking spaces are also available. You can also use mobile phone parking here.

There are footpaths and cycle paths almost everywhere in Ansbach and also - especially in the city centre - many shortcuts that make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to get from A to B. There are many cycle parking facilities throughout the city centre. You can now also cycle through the old town centre. But please do so slowly and considerately.

Medical care

Ansbach has three hospitals: the hospital, the district hospital and the Rangauklinik. The Ansbach hospital is the main provider of the ANregiomed hospital network. The clinics in Rothenburg and Dinkelsbühl also belong to this network. The district hospital is - as the name suggests - an institution of the district of Middle Franconia and has its medical focus in the field of mental health. The Rangauklinik, on the other hand, belongs to Diakonie and specialises in lung diseases. The largest diaconal organisation in southern Germany also operates another full-service clinic in neighbouring Neuendettelsau.

Culture

Ansbach is one of the smallest towns to have its own ensemble theatre, the Stadttheater. In addition to renowned plays, it also hosts concerts and cinema events as well as sermons and puppet theatre. In contrast, the Kopfüber theatre, with its three stages and high artistic standard, has a rather unconventional repertoire. Semi-professional theatre work in Ansbach's only independent workshop theatre is characterised by the Lila theatre group. Spiel.Werk e.V. is a platform for the art and theatre scene, with various events and theatre productions. Cinema, theatre, cabaret and much more can be found at one of Ansbach's institutions, the Kammerspiele.

The galleries Kunsthaus Reitbahn, Galerie Stiegler, Leerstelle and Das Loft are further cultural delights.

Ansbach also has two cinemas with different orientations. The Capitol is a classic cinema with several screens and a current programme. In the Schlosskino, selected classics and insider tips are presented in the open air at previously announced times.

Events

Every June, the Old Town Festival fills the alleyways and courtyards with life. An absolute must-attend event. All the Christmas markets in the region are also well worth a visit. Ansbach can also offer the very high school of culture: at the Bach Week, which takes place every two years, you can experience classical music of the highest calibre. There is also the Rococo Festival, the Ansbach Open and much more. So it doesn't always have to be a flat-share party in a kitchen that's far too small.
