Study overview

Medicine and biosciences

The subject of medicine is omnipresent. Hardly a day goes by without the media reporting on promising new research results, alarming developments such as the worldwide increase in diabetes, the cost explosion in health care, nutrition tips or the current knee injury of a top football player. Health topics are also very popular on the Internet: According to a recent study by BITKOM, almost 28 million German citizens are looking for health information on the Web. The need of journalists, who are able to prepare complex medical connections for different medium forms understandably and target group-fairly, is accordingly large. This is where the courses offered by the medical and biosciences department come in.

In the focus area Medicine and Biosciences, students acquire the technical basics for working in medical and scientific editorial departments of public media, specialist publishers, research institutions, public health institutions and life science companies.

The programme is aimed at prospective journalists who want to deal with interesting scientific developments in medicine and biotechnology on the one hand, but also with their effects on individuals, society, politics and business on the other. Prior knowledge in medicine or biosciences is not required for the allocation of the focus. The required specialist knowledge is imparted in the priority modules.
