The courses in the Operational Applications specialisation teach current competences in the areas of key figure-oriented business management and the application of machine learning algorithms in an operational context.
Leading and widely used analysis tools from Microsoft are used here as well as the free open-source solutions Python, Jupyter, R, RStudio and Tensorflow.
The job market in Germany and worldwide is desperately looking for data scientists with this competence profile.
Course structure
The courses of the specialisation Business Applications consist of the following modules:
Business Analytics (4 SWS, 5 ECTS, SPM1)
The focus of this course is on corporate performance management and key figure-oriented business management on the basis of a comprehensive (intelligent) information architecture (data warehouse) and corresponding information availability (dashboards). Well-founded know-how in the field of data warehousing and system integration is acquired here on the basis of leading software solutions (Microsoft Power BI) and databases (MySql). In addition, the basics of using machine learning in a business context are taught.
Machine Learning for Business (4 SWS, 5 ECTS, SPM1)
The focus of this course is on the application of the latest algorithms of supervised, semi-supervised and unsupervised machine learning (linear modelling, neural networks, classification, decision trees, etc.) with the programming language Python and R. In particular, the application of open source libraries for machine learning such as Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, Keras and Tidymodels are learned.
