Study overview

Industrial engineers are specialists for interfaces: Their fields of activity lie wherever it is important to coordinate technical and commercial thinking.
The aim of the course is to impart the technical, methodological and social skills required for the independent application of scientific findings and procedures as well as for responsible action in business and society.
The development of new products up to market launch is one of the typical tasks of industrial engineers as well as the introduction of digitalisation in modern production processes and the development of concepts for sustainable management in companies.

Zur Studienrichtung

Study structure

The bachelor's programme comprises a total of seven semesters. Of these, six semesters must be completed at the university and one semester at a company of the student's choice.

A basic internship (eight weeks) must be completed either before the course of study or by the end of the 4th semester.

In the 1st and 2nd semester, the fundamentals of natural and engineering sciences as well as economics and general sciences are the focus of your studies. In the following semesters, this acquired knowledge is consolidated by subject-specific compulsory modules. Elective modules and a practical semester round off the personal study profile.

Starting in the 3rd semester, each student selects an engineering (Energy Technology, Plastics Technology, Systems Engineering) and an economics (General Management, Product Management) major from the six study majors.

A bachelor's thesis written according to the standards of scientific work completes your studies.

Business Development Manager in E-T-A Elektrotechnische Apparate GmbH

„After successful completion of my technical college entrance qualification at the BOS Nuremberg, I was faced with the decision: Business or technology - but why not study both? For me personally, the Industrial Engineering and Management course at HS Ansbach was the right choice. Especially the high practical relevance during my studies, the practical semester and the numerous projects in smaller groups were very valuable for me. The opportunity to write my Bachelor's thesis in cooperation with a company also helped me to prepare myself for my professional life. After graduating, I decided to take a consecutive Master's degree course at FAU and a semester abroad in South Korea. Looking back, the bachelor's degree at the university, the master's degree at the university and the semester abroad were the perfect combination for a successful start in professional life.“

English is the official business language in many large corporations. Even smaller companies are often closely networked with partners from all over the world. It is therefore not surprising that experience abroad is highly valued by many employers. Students confirm time and again that international encounters are also an enriching personal experience.

Semester abroad

A semester abroad can be spent either at a partner university or via a company during the practical semester. Our International Office will provide you with individual support in the planning and implementation of a semester abroad - both organisationally and in many cases financially. In order to make your start easier, you can make specific preparations for your stay abroad at our Language Centre (Sprachenzentrum).
