Plastics Engineering

The advantage of plastic as a material is leading to an increase in demand. Plastic is light, has a high resistance, is easy to process and has a wide range of materials. It can be used in products of everyday life (electronic devices, furniture, textiles), the mobility sector (cars, airplanes), the building sector (thermal insulation, cables), for packaging (foods, cosmetics), medical products and has many industrial uses.

The plastics industry is one of the most important industrial sectors in Germany. Due to the increase in the application range of plastics expectations in its technical requirements and qualities are also on the increase. These include the surface properties, the design, the production processes, the resistance and the reusability.
Innovation regarding the material and its processing is more in demand than ever. Engineers who specialise in plastics will be part of a growing industry with many different career prospects.

The course in "Plastics Engineering" is part of the “Applied Engineering Sciences” programme. Basics in the engineering sciences will be taught in the beginning semesters. One’s major can be chosen from the courses offered by AIW (provided places are available). Applicants apply for each individual course. One cannot apply for AIW in general.

Extra occupational or full time study

Ansbach University of Applied Sciences offers two bachelor courses of study in plastics:

•    Plastics (KT) - as a full time course and
•    Applied Polymer Engineering (AKT) - as an extra occupational course.
